Star Wars on G4

I love G4. They have gaming, technology, pop culture stuff, but most of all because they're Star Wars fans, and recently G4 has been letting it all hang out.

They've been rerunning the 1.5 hour Celebration Japan special frequently, with awesome interviews from cast biggies, and have pretty much all of it divided into mutliple video segments on the website. Click here to see them all (I started at page 2, since the end is the beginning in this case). I have to post my favorite video from the lot though, which features our very own starwars.com fellow blogger and GHG Geek 'greenandwhitejedi', who aces the Star Wars quiz while the others flounder (how they didn't know the answers to those questions and still paid to go to Celebration Japan is way beyond me). Sorry fanboys, no Slave Leia Olivia this year, but they do flash back to those golden days with a Japanese twist! More info after the video:

Aside from this awesome Celebration Japan spectacular, X-Play is also running some Star Wars heavy programming centered around the upcoming Force Unleashed release (yeay!). As with CJ, most of the TFU segments are available to view via the site (scroll down to X-Play Previews), sans commercials. Some of the best news from X-Play concerning TFU is that the game is finished and they're putting the playable demo together which we can expect this month!

I've also heard that Steve Sansweet will be on Attack of the Show, but haven't seen it in the programming and I'm not sure if it's happened yet. Anybody?

Comic-Con: The Office, Heroes

Ack! Haven't been able to post here lateley, but had to put up these two NBC videos for the Comic-Con panels for The Office and Heroes. Here they are:

Congrats to Jedi-G and Jedi-J on a great job with the Henry I and Marion costumes!

Live-action show will reveal greasy, seamy underbelly

Can you say 'new catch-phrase'? News has been rolling in from the panels at NYCC, and Steve Sansweet has given us an oh-so-eloquent outlook on the upcoming live-action show with more empty promises that it will outdo the Star Wars Holiday Special. MTV.com (yeah, I know)

2007 Browncoat Ball

The Browncoats are coming! Well, to Philadelphia, which I am nowhere near.

Anyway, who ever said I never report on Firefly stuff, eh? Nobody I guess, but the fans of Firefly who call themselves Browncoats are keeping the spirit alive of both their fandom and the greater community. The third ever Browncoat Ball is brought to us by the Pennsylvania Browncoats, and it's lookin' to be something purty speshul. The event will take place September 28-30, 2007 and registration ends September 15th.

2007 Philly Browncoat Ball home page

The Browncoat Ball tradition started in 2004, thanks to the efforts of the Chicagoland Browncoats, who also helped spawn the more organized network of Firefly fans through an ever growing membership in Yahoo Groups (that old thing still exists?). These fans have raised thousands of dollars under the banner of Can't Stop the Signal by hosting local screenings of Serenity to raise money for charity. And they are all so very pretty to boot ;)

Now if that's not a cool fandom, I don't know what is. The Browncoat Ball sounds like a blast, but alas, it's a little too far from home... except I know a few people down there I wouldn't mind dragging along with me. :D

For now... I'll be in my bunk.

Indy, Indy, Indy! And a dash of Star Wars...

Click on the picture above... I dare you. The official website for the Indiana Jones franchise has gotten a face-lift as it gears up for the next installment, Indy IV. Check it out along with some recent production video peeks courtesy of Steven Spielberg.

Woah! Check out the video from Comic Con as well. Indy cast and crew! Hoot hoot! I read this transcript but really wanted to actually see it. Well, there I go. A very special lady makes an appearance, and Shia is hilarious - "I don't know what I'm doing in this movie". If this gets removed, don't worry... I downloaded it. ;)

Indy stuff was part of the rage at Comic Con. Look for some pics of Indy set props in this photo collection from the Official Star Wars.com Blog (the entry linked has some more Indy news from the Star Wars publishing panel at SDCC, as well as cool SW stuff... as always). Here's some video from the sw.commers too:

Very nice!

Some more reports from Comic Con panels thanks to TOSWCB
(looks like there's still no Kirk for Star Trek XI, but they got a young Spock!).

And last but not least - Kudos to starwars.com on the new Clone Wars addition to the website. I haven't combed through it yet, but I'll be getting to that soon. Now, can we have some live action show news peeps? I guess we'll have to wait until Indy IV goes to post before that. *sigh*

Celebration: Lightsabers

Whilst viewing this cool little gem from Celebration Europe, that has been posted around at some of the Star Wars sites:

I then saw this one as well, in some of the similar entries youtube offers, also from Celebration Europe. I thought it was a pretty fun thing to do, and these blokes did a bloody good job of it:

Here's part two, if you're too stubborn to use the new youtube beta tools :p

... and if you look around youtube and some of the other video sites, you'll see Celebration Europe coverage aplenty. It just doesn't seem to be as heavily covered at the official site, by the bloggers at least ;)

7.15.2007

Hi nob01!

I was just browsing through some of the Celebration Europe pictures the official starwars.com blog had posted in their Flickr pages, and look who I found waving at us...

Everyone wave to Neil! Hi Neil :)
Heh, heh! Just wait 'til he comes home and sees this :p

CE seems overall maybe slightly more... mellow than what I had seen for C4 in LA - ? All I have to work with is the coverage I get from the above mentioned blog, other fan blogs, etc. I guess we'll see more stuff after the event ties up. Maybe it is just that there are less of our fellow bloggers giving us heavy coverage this time round.

Here's a little clip from the opening ceremonies for CE from the starwars.com blog. Fun!

Star Wars zombies unite!

This looks too cool...

Some fans are gearing up to "cosplay" their favorite Star Wars fatalities revived as zombies and the like for D*C and maybe other cons (?). I'd love to do this for my first con ever, whenever that is.

Check it out here: http://echuta.net/zombies/

And thanks to the ever informative Club Jade for the decomposing heads up!

FCTV - The best C4 coverage yet

Maybe I shouldn't speak so soon, but after checking out some other reports from C4 on good old fashioned youtube, I stumbled upon TheForce.net's (link to Force Cast youtube page) very own Force Cast TV, with some really great video straight from the convention center. Check out the complete video collection so far in the link above. Here's one of my favorites:

I've been finding a lot of little C4 gems on youtube beyond that, including a lot of the talent show auditions (still haven't found video of the actual talent show however), a couple of clips for collectors by JediInsider.com, and all sorts of other little things.

Here's a news clip concerning the bomb threat during the opening ceremony (I'm convinced the mysterious bag must have contained some fan's "space junk", or perhaps even a custom lightsaber kit or the like):

Of course the official starwars.com/Lucas Online Celebration IV blog and photostream continue to give us some of the best updates, coverage, and images from the convention.

I really feel like I'm missing out on a really incredible event. I was never really the "convention type", but always liked to get highlights (especially concerning Star Wars of course) from certain events through the media. After following C4 from afar, I think I will be turning into the "convention type" real soon. I'm really hoping for the offical Celebrations to continue. I'll definitely be going to C5!

Celebration 4 coverage in the media

Alas, here I am stuck in the now drizzly and cool northeast (even though it was sunny, too hot, and humid just the other day), a far bound away from the excitement and activities in LA where the official event celebrating the 30th anniversary of Star Wars is taking place over the weekend.

In the midst of my pouting about it, I've been engorging myself with as much coverage of the event that I can possible find. In the entry before this, I posted the news about G4's coverage. I finally watched it, and while they gave us an ample two hours of air time, it still wasn't nearly enough for my tastes. Furthermore, they spent a little too much time focused on the jabbering of the hosts. Time that could have well been spent getting up close and personal with the multitude of fans and hugely diverse events and areas of interest at the convention. They've been rerunning it like crazy on G4, as expected, so if you've missed it, you could probably catch it again. Frankly, I found the Star Wars tribute edition of X-Play on the same channel to be vastly more entertaining. That's just me though.

Otherwise, if you really want the best coverage of C4, you need only stop at one place (and navigate to a few others from there): www.starwars.com

Just in the nick of time for this major milestone in Star Wars history, the official site has stepped up to bat and really has come through with extensive multimedia coverage. First with the beginning of the site reconstruction, the new video section gives us a few great previews: just today with an exclusive clip from the upcoming Clone Wars 3D animation show.

But if you dig in deeper you'll find that Lucas Online staffers, namely Bonnie Burton and Pablo Hidalgo, have been posting frequent updates to their Star Wars C4 blog, with ample video, photos and articles. This one blog is all you really need to feel as close to C4 as possible while not actually being there. Make sure to click on the photostream in that blog, if you want to be overwhelmed with photos of absolutely ever nook and cranny of C4.

I wondered who it was who won the uspsjedimaster.com contest to receive tickets to C4. It wasn't me, which I of course had hoped. But there is another!

Monday the 28th brings us the program Star Wars: Legacy Revealed on the History channel. They too are running a sweepstakes to potentially win tickets to Celebration Europe this coming July. Click of the widget I embedded in my blog to get to the site and cast a vote every day to win! Or go directly here to vote.

Happy 30th, and the Force is with us, always :D
